Email informal- where to live in Spain
Esto es un email informal entre amigos, uno español y otro inglés. El amigo inglés quiere venir a España y le pregunta por email a su amigo, que vive en España, consejos. Como se trata de un texto informal, hay que usar lenguaje informal, se pueden usar contracciones, a diferencia de los textos formales. Si quieres contrastar ambos registros, formal e informal, te recomiendo que veas las cartas de queja en inglés, que son formales y compares ambos textos.
Este email ha sido enviado por un alumno,Juan A., y yo se lo voy a corregir para que así otros estudiantes puedan aprender de sus errores. Se trata de un writing nivel B1.
En rojo vamos a poner los errores, que los corregiré escribiendo lo correcto entre paréntesis, en verde las estructuras fijas que debemos emplear ante este tipo de textos y en azul las cosas buenas, tanto de vocabulario (porque sea adecuado para el nivel) como de gramática, que le dan nivel y calidad al writing.

Sorry for the delay to answer you so late (Better: sorry for replying so late). I haven’t been able to do it before.
How are things in London? In (On) your last email, you told me that you have finally (at last OR just, already) finished your degree.
Congratulations….you have studied so much!!!
I wish I finished my degree too…I wish I had studied journalism, if I had known I wouldn’t have studied economy.
Also you said (told) me that you want to move to Spain.
Let me tell you some advices that you should consider:
Firstly, I suggest you live in Madrid.
In my opinion, it’s the best city in Spain. I‘ve lived here since I was child though I live in Rivas, a city to fifteen kilometres away.
Madrid offers many alternatives to be chosen as your destiny (destination), such as amazing people, thousands of good restaurants, beautiful museums and monuments, excellent transports (tube and bus lines), exciting night life.
However, if you wanted to move around by car you would have some problems as awful traffic or our manner driving (driving side). We drive on the right side, I hope you‘ll get used to driving of this manner (this way) soon.
I advise you to rent a room in a shared apartment in the center (centre in British English)
Concerning the Spanish food, only I can only tell you that it is recogniced (recognized) as one of the best in the world.
In Madrid, you’ll have the posibility (possibility) to try many typical dishes of our territory. I suggest you try the tapas.
In comparison to you, we have lunch and dinner later, but beer is drunk at all hours also (too).
You are used to having dinner at seven, here we usually have dinner at nine or ten.
In Spain there are many festivals and important fairs such as San Isidro, here in Madrid; people wear typical costumes, called chulapos and chulapas; other important festivals are The Fallas in Valencia, Fair of Seville, The Bonfires in Alicante, San Fermines in Pamplona…
I wish we could see everything (all of them).
Regarding the weather in Madrid, summers are very hot, with temperatures near to thirty-seven degrees (OR temperatures get close to 37 degrees) and winters are colder than in London.
You need to buy (bring) t-shirts and a couple of coats.
Finally, I suggest you learn Spanish through private classes, with a qualified teacher. To learn the speaking, I suggest you attend to classes of interchange with Spanish people who are very interested in it.
A lot of people begin to speak in Spanish or English so (por qué «so» aquí??)
Classes are given in pubs or other places.

1. El writing está muy bien para un nivel B1, aunque hay errores, el alumno Juan A. ha utilizado una gramática muy buena, lo cual se valora muy positivamente.
2. Gramática buena utilizada:
- Everything goes = everything + verbo en singular
- Uso del presente perfecto = I haven’t been able to do it, you have
finally(at last OR just, already) finished your degree, you have studied so much!!! - Wish + past simple o past perfect: I wish I finished my degree too…I wish I had studied journalism.
