Comparativo y superlativo en inglés, ¿os haría falta un resumen? Aquí os dejo uno, tanto de adjetivos como de adverbios.

ADJECTIVES

COMPARATIVES

  • One-syllabe adjectives: tall, small, big, etc.

-er: taller

  • Two or more syllables: expensive, difficult, modern, etc.

  more + adjectivemore expensive

  less + adjective: less expensive

  •  Two syllables ending in –y: heavy, pretty, funny, etc.

er and –y becomes -i: heavier, prettier

 

PAY ATTENTION TO Consonant Vowel Consonant and doble the consonant:     big – bigger

 

TO COMPARE TWO THINGS OR ACTIONS

- Comparative + than: My sister is taller than me OR my sister is taller than I am. Remember! After ‘than’, 2 possibilities: than + object pronoun OR than + subject + auxiliary.

 

EQUALITY

As + adjective + as: My mother is as tall as my father.

The same as: Her new car looks the same as the old one.

SUPERLATIVES

  • One-syllabe adjectives: tall, small, big, etc.

- est:  tallest

  •  More than two syllables: expensive, difficult, modern, etc.

the most + adjective:  the most expensive

the least + adjective: the least expensive

  •  Two syllables ending in –y: heavy, pretty, funny, etc.

est and –y becomes –i:  heaviest, prettiest

 

PAY ATTENTION TO Consonant Vowel Consonant and doble the consonant:     big- biggest

TO COMPARE TWO THINGS OR ACTIONS

 The + superlative + IN: He’s the tallest player in the team.

 

ADVERBS

COMPARATIVESALWAYS: more + adverb

 

She drives carefully. He doesn’t drive carefully.

She drives more carefully than him.

She speaks more slowly than him.

Typical mistake: she speaks slower than him.

SUPERLATIVES

ALWAYS: the most + adverb

 

Who drives the most carefully in your family?

 

 

How to recognise an adverb?by means of asking how? to the verb.

For example: She drives carefully.

We ask: how does she drive? And the answer is: carefully, which refers always to the verb.
